Providing technical skills to find employment
Mahida village is situated in the Kilimanjaro region in the northern part of Tanzania. Mahida VTC sets out to provide primary school leavers who are unable to continue their education with technical skills helping them into employment. The centre originally opened in 1995 but over time, conditions at the centre began to deteriorate and in 2008, Childreach International worked with the local community to assist in renovation work. This included introducing computing, carpentry and tailoring classes, constructing two modern toilets and paying the wages of seven VTC staff. The student population currently stands at 75 with students ranging from the ages 14 to 18 years.
