Child Rights & Protection
One of our core objectives as an international development charity is the restoration and protection of child rights. This aim goes hand in hand with our vision of a world in which every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential in life.
As part of our efforts to achieve this goal, we support projects in India, Bangladesh and Nepal that work to not only promote awareness of child rights in local communities, but also to restore them and encourage the continued protection of children of all ages.
Below is a brief introduction to some of the projects we currently support:
Bangladesh
Preventing Child Trafficking
I now want to continue my studies and become a teacher so that I can educate more children about the dangers of child trafficking.
Farzana, 14 Rescued from a gang of child traffickers by BISAP
We've been working with our project partner BISAP in Bangladesh to raise awareness of the dangers of child trafficking in the country since 2010. The Bangladesh Integrated Social Advancement Programme is implementing a community based project to prevent this horrific violation of children's rights, focusing on the border areas of Jessore & Shatkira.
BISAP organises teacher training and also develops child leaders, who pass on their knowledge to other children in the area, spreading awareness of the techniques traffickers use to entice children to go with them.
The work we are doing with BISAP to protect and promote child rights is invaluable to communities in a country where child trafficking is a real problem.
In early 2011, BISAP rescued a 14 year old girl called Farzana from a gang of child traffickers, safely returning her home to her grandmother. This remarkable achievement was made possible through the increase in awareness of the dangers of child trafficking as a result of BISAP's tireless efforts.

India
Promoting Child Rights in Urban Slums
Mahila Action Society and Childreach International's India office are providing education to child labourers, rag pickers, children out of school and children working as domestic servants. The project raises awareness amongst these groups of the dangers of child trafficking and exploitation, as well as providing vocational training on alternative livelihoods for the children, and educating them on their right to education and food.
Nepal
Empowering Young People & Children
I like staying in the centre. Here I can study and play with my friends. I'm happy now.
Sanmjana, 12 Resident at one of Antardristi's Residential Centres
Childreach Nepal is working with Antardristi to empower young people and children to overcome various psychological problems associated with sexual abuse. The project has opened two residential centres for children who have been sexually abused, providing them with counselling and psychological assistance. Antardristi also raises awareness of sexual abuse in local communities through community workshops. This is invalubale to children who have suffered this kind of abuse given the social stigma attached to victims of sexual abuse in Nepalese society.
