With World Water Day looming and as numerous NGO campaigns focus upon the need for better water and sanitation facilities in developing countries, Childreach International is sending out four volunteers to Tanzania to complete a water pump project as part of our innovative Futurebuilding scheme. So far the project - which is part of our School Improvements Programme at Benjamin Mkapa Primary School in the Moshi District of Tanzania - has received great praise from the local community, who are looking forward to its completion on the 5th April. “We thank Childreach International for building a well for us. It is very important for us because we will now have clean and safe water for cooking and drinking. It is also good for our hygiene – now we can use the water to wash our hands before and after eating; something we could not do before because we did not have enough water. The well will also help us grow more food which will provide the children with meals during the day which will mean more children can stay in school” -Jackson, Benjamin Mkapa Primary School, Tanzania The success of the water pump project will have a dramatic effect upon the lives of the 643 children attending Benjamin Mkapa Primary School. The supply of quality water will increase and the rate of water born diseases among students will reduce, in turn improving the performance of students and raising attendance levels to the safe and secure school environment.
