The Boys are Back in Town! Print E-mail

completed_Eon_AscaledLast June saw the return home of fundraisers extraordinaire Ian Mowbray Williams and Alan Wells (pictured left, in South Africa), who cycled an amazing 12,000 miles across 30 countries over 10 months, as part of their ambitious ‘EyeonAfrica’ cycle challenge.

The pair of young graduates began their exciting expedition back in 2009, when, after a pat on the back from Mayor of London Boris Johnson, they set off with their equipment-clad bicycles in tow. Their low-carbon cycling challenge led them through countries such as Morocco, Gambia, Rwanda, Kenya and Malawi, until they finally reached their destination: South Africa.

Throughout the trip, the pair shared varied experiences included taking in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, lamb sacrifice ceremonies in Dakar, and even an appearance on Ghana’s equivalent of the Jonathon Ross show!

EyeOnAfrica was an amazing experience and we will treasure the memories forever. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout this journey and to everyone who has made a donation to Childreach International.

During their trip, Ian and Alan visited Kpano village, where Childreach International and its partners have transformed a local school by renovating classrooms and constructing a playground. Visiting a project at a grassroots level, Alan and Ian saw firsthand the positive impact their fundraising was having, and witnessed how their pedal power and determination has directly sped up the sustainable development of the village. The pair raised a fantastic £10,000 for Childreach International, which will be spent on projects such as Kpano village.

“We are hugely grateful for the inspirational achievements of EyeonAfrica. Their fantastic fundraising efforts will directly help children like those they met in the Kpano village. Thank you Ian and Alan”. Firoz Patel, CEO, Childreach International.
