Winners of Best Fundraising Team at IOF National Awards

Childreach International’s Challenge Event Team was celebrating on Monday night after being awarded "Best Fundraising Team" at the Institute of Fundraising National Awards in London. The award comes after the team completed their first year as Student Fundraising Managers for the charity. With an average combined age of just 22, the young team, made up of Ashley Farrell, Sam Mason, Rachel McClenaghan and Paul Doubleday, run Childreach International’s flagship Challenge Events to students across UK.

2011 has been a tough year for the sector, with many charities suffering from heavy cuts; however Childreach International has experienced levels of unprecedented growth with an increase in turnover of almost 40%. This can be largely contributed to the sterling hard work of the Challenge Events Team who together, have more than doubled the number of partner universities from 17 to 44, increasing Challenge Event registrants by 42%

Upon hearing the fantastic news Paul Doubleday, SFM said:

We are so pleased to be nominated for this award. It’s been a real team effort and we are lucky to work with fantastic fundraisers up and down the country. A big thank you to everyone who has given their time and effort to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.

On the National Awards 2011, Geoff Burch comments:

It’s clear that tonight’s winners have been using the very best techniques; particularly in these tough times a good fundraiser needs to be very persuasive and charismatic to get their fair share of the pie. My hearty congratulations go to the winners and I hope that they can inspire everyone to follow their lead.

The award comes days after the SFMs also found out that they have been nominated for “Best Fundraising Team” at this year’s Third Sector Excellence Awards. Funds raised from Challenge Events are funnelled into projects that work to unlock the potential of children in the developing world. This year, Childreach International projects have helped over 70,000 children improve their access to health, education, child rights and protection.
