Lizzie Burch, a student at Nottingham Trent University, has raised a phenomenal £4,827 for international development charity Childreach International - smashing her original target of £2,450.

Lizzie, who has never organised an event before, raised the majority of this through an “Auction of Promises” – which saw her fill the local pub for an auction of prizes including golf days, gym passes and photography lessons among many others.

With 32 prizes kindly donated – many from local businesses – and a professional auctioneer who gave up his night to host the event, Lizzie managed to raise an incredible £3,500 in just one evening.

"I couldn't have asked for it to go much better. With the raffle, ticket sales and auction as well as any extra donations put into the bucket, the whole evening raised over £3,500. Best night ever and not bad for someone who has never organised an event in her life!"

The event helped Lizzie raise sponsorship money for her Mount Everest fundraising challenge, which will see the intrepid student take part in a two week trek to Everest base camp.

Lizzie’s trip is in support of Childreach International’s projects to improve children’s education, health care, child rights and protection.
