Painting, plastering and making swings were just some of the tasks carried out by Sage’s volunteers during their time at Yangrima School. Dedication, a lot of hard graft, and yak milk tea at sunset was all the volunteers needed to complete the “School Improvements Project,” providing children in the Sinhupalchok district of Nepal access to a safe educational environment.

Nepal’s violent civil war in 2001 ravaged the countries basic infrastructures, closing schools and hindering opportunities to learn. However, since then, Childreach International’s projects have witnessed significant success, making a dramatic difference to the lives of hundreds of disadvantaged children.
In 2009, Childreach International partnered with UK based company Sage, to redevelop Yangrima School in the village of Shermathang. On the 14th April 2009, the funds raised by Sage enabled seventy-seven children to enrol and re-start lessons, giving them back their right to education. Finally, in November, the business software supplier finished the remaining school renovation by sending out seventeen volunteers to complete project work necessary for the school to function at its optimum level. ![]() Sermathang Village and its breathtaking backdrop
On the 5th November, Sage volunteers assisted the local community in repairing ten classrooms and a dining hall, and with the construction of a playground, during a rewarding two week trip. The process toward the programmes completion fully immersed Sage volunteers into community life as they engaged with the local children whose future they were drastically improving.

Sage’s involvement in the Yangrima school renovation project demonstrates the level of commitment of likeminded organisations who are acting now to ensure that sustainable development becomes a reality. We thank Sage and all its volunteers for participating in this partnership which is ensuring that the harm caused by armed conflict in Nepal’s past, need not have permanent repercussions on the future of its children. ![]() ![]() Left: Sage volunteers get to work renovating Yangrima School
