Children the world over are set to celebrate global child rights, this Universal Children’s Day, November 20th. Universal Children’s Day was first recognised in 1954, to promote children’s rights and strengthen a global drive to combat abuses of their rights worldwide. This incredible celebration unifies children around the globe, who collectively advocate for their rights and help their futures develop.
At Childreach International, we believe children are at the heart of everything we do. As part of our mission to improve children’s access to health, education and child’s rights, and establish a global movement of child rights supporters, we are using Univerisal Children’s Day to strengthen children’s understanding of international development and human rights issues affecting others around the world. What we are doing to celebrate the day Childreach International is clubbing together with London schools and community groups, for an afternoon of international play, raising awareness and creating links between children here in the United Kingdom and in the developing world. Schools around north London have been preparing for this event, working on child rights workshops and international music and cooking classes with the aim to spur better understanding between children across the world. Children will even re-create our innovative child rights and protection project – Balsena- used by children in India, giving them a real taste of the issues faced and overcome in the developing world. The Factory Community Project International buffets, drama and drumming workshops, performers and International Development classes are just some of the activities to take place in the afternoon, at the Factory Community Project in Newington Green. This session will finish with the twinning of the play centre with a similar centre in Occupied Palestinian Territories, West Bank, one of Childreach International’s project partners. Global Schools Initiative The twinning of education centres is part of our ground breaking Global Schools Initiative Programme, which aims to enhance children’s global awareness by uniting schools in the United Kingdom with our project schools overseas. Children will learn exactly what it's like to live in the developing world and learn how to work together to improve child rights.
