At Childreach International we believe strongly in educating the younger generations on the social issues faced by the developing world; inspiring and informing them so that they can help make changes in the future. Many of the young adults that fundraise for us go on to become Childreach International volunteers or look for employment within the third sector.

Schools

Our Global Schools Initiative is an education and fundraising programme that aims to create sustainable links between schools here in the UK and schools in the developing world. The programme educates children around the world in development issues and the difficulties faced by those less fortunate than themselves, through presentations, workshops, school twinning partnerships and teacher visits to our projects. These work to foster mutual respect, understanding and communication between the children.

- School Twinning Partnerships

These partnerships play an important part in the Global Schools Initiative, creating a unique and long lasting partnership between children in the UK and overseas. Building these kind of links encourages a mutual understanding between children worldwide, resulting in better communication and respect.

Childreach International offers schools throughout the UK the opportunity to become involved in a school twinning partnership with one of our project schools in the developing world. Children in the UK can then become active agents of change by fundraising and promoting the partnership, and seeing how their work benefits the children in their partner schools.

The twinning programme also offers the opportunity to further strengthen the partnership through teacher visits with our award winning Futurebuilding programme. Teachers from your school can travel abroad and meet with the teachers and children from your partner school. Often these valuable experiences can provide inspiration for new and exciting materials to add a global dimension to the following school year's curriculum.

- Other benefits of the Global Schools Initiative & twinning

  • Your school will be set apart as a leader in global citizenship.
  • The initiative ties into the government's '8 Doorways to Sustainable Schools'
  • Opportunities for both in-depth understanding of other cultures and far reaching cultural exchange.
  • Free educational workshops that will enhance your school's curriculum.
  • The opportunity for your staff to experience new cultures and gain a wider knowledge of global development issues.

'Learning Together For Life' - Children in Tanzania sum up the meaning of the Global Schools Initiative.

We want to make children global citizens who are aware of what is happening in the world and who actively take action to make the world a better place for themselves and for others. This is achieved through school fundraising. The initiative ties in with the UK government’s ‘Eight doorways to sustainable schools’ directive, which encourages schools to expand the global dimension of their curriculum.

Universities

We work with over 20 Universities across the UK and Ireland. Through our Challenge Events we provide young adults with a cross cultural learning experience at the same time as offering an  opportunity to achieve a once in a lifetime goal such as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. We operate a strict ethical travel policy and participate in an active carbon offsetting programme. In 2009, over 600 students took part in our challenge events.
