Cycle around India with Childreach International!
Introduction
Orissa on 2 Wheels is a once in a lifetime chance to get involved in one of Childreach International’s newest fundraising challenge experiences. The adventure is a three week cycling challenge expedition to one of the most under-developed regions of India. Volunteers will have the chance to cycle through the ‘K.B.K. district’ of Orissa, get an in-depth look at how Childreach International's education and health projects are run on the ground and even participate in a new community outreach initiative aimed at getting more children into school and out of poverty!
The journey will take participants from the bustling streets of Delhi to the quietest hill regions of Andhra Pradesh’s Eastern Ghats. Using every method of transport from trains to planes, bicycles to boats its going to be an amazing adventure!
Itinerary
The basic itinerary for the Orissa on 2Wheels cycling challenge is outlined below.
- Day 1 - Depart London Heathrow (p.m.)
- Day 2 - Arrive in Delhi, transfer flight to Bhubanweswar. Train to Sambalpur
- Day 3 – Preparation day in Sambalpur, publicity press conference in the evening
- Day 4 – Begin cycling! Overnight stay is in Sonepur
- Day 5 – A short journey from Sonepur to Bolangir, project visits on route
- Day 6 – Across the myriad of paddy fields from Bolangir to Kesinga
- Day 7 – Kesinga to the regional heart, Bhawani Patnam
- Day 8 – Bhawani Patnam to Kashipur
- Day 9 – The last day of educational outreach, Kashipur to Jaypur
- Day 10 – Jaypur to the relaxing lake side of Similguda
- Day 11 – The last major uphill struggle from Similguda to Araku
- Day 12 – Crossing from Orissa to Andra Pradesh, one long way down to the sea!
- Day 13 – Rest day in Vishakhapatnam
- Day 14-21 – Return to Delhi and onwards!

When Is It?
The exact departure date for Orissa on 2 Wheels 2010 is very flexible! As this is the event's first year the itinerary dates will be agreed and based upon the requirements of the team. Until an exact date is finalised, the provisional date of departure is Thursday 19th August 2010.
Sponsorship
The minimum sponsorship to take part in the Orissa on 2Wheels cycling expedition is only £2,200*. We will provide you with access to our fundraising support network to help you with fundraising ideas. Not only will you get to take part in the trip of a lifetime to India but you will also make a huge difference to the future of hundreds of children.
*Please be aware that some of your sponsorship money will be spent on your expenses. There is also a non-refundable initial donation of £220 required.
